Krugersdorp West, 4 July 2026

On a crisp Saturday morning, six Brethren from Roodepoort Caledonian Lodge #865 traded their aprons for aprons of a different kind — rolling up their sleeves to serve one of the West Rand’s most cherished community organizations, the Future Dreams Foundation NPC.

From 09:00 till about 12:00, our Brethren journeyed to Krugersdorp West to continue a relationship built on one of Freemasonry’s most sacred principles: Relief. This tenet — the duty to extend compassion and support to those in need — was not merely spoken about that morning; it was lived.

A Foundation Built on Hope

Future Dreams Foundation NPC is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting families, children, and communities, with a special emphasis on the care and support of neglected children. Under the compassionate leadership of Estelle Opperman, the Foundation has become a beacon of hope for dozens of children who might otherwise be overlooked by society.

On this visit, our Brethren were welcomed by approximately 50 children, each carrying stories of resilience that reminded us all why this work matters so deeply.

Deeds, Not Words

True to Masonic tradition, our Brethren arrived not empty-handed. Thanks to generous collections and donations from Freemasons across the West Rand, the Lodge was able to deliver:

  • 🥫 Foodstuff to nourish families
  • 🧼 Cleaning materials to support hygiene and dignity
  • 🛏️ Blankets to bring warmth through the winter months
  • 👕 Clothing and essential items for daily living

But the Brethren’s contribution went far beyond material donations. The morning was spent hands-on with the children — firing up the grill for hotdogs, dishing out chips, cooldrinks, and handing out sweet treats. Laughter filled the air as Brethren and children shared a morning of genuine connection, warmth, and joy.

More Than Just a Visit

This outreach is not a once-off gesture of charity — it represents an ongoing relationship between the West Rand Masons, Roodepoort Caledonian Lodge #865 and Future Dreams Foundation. Freemasonry teaches us that Relief is not a single act, but a continuous commitment to our fellow man. Our Brethren look forward to returning again and again, building lasting bonds with this remarkable community.

As one Brother reflected after the visit: “The whole experience was memorable and heartwarming — a true reminder of why we do what we do.”

How You Can Help
