“The Trowel: Spreading the Cement of Brotherly Love”

Among the working tools presented to us in Freemasonry, the Trowel holds a special place. While the Operative Mason used it to spread mortar and bind stones together, we as Speculative Masons are taught a far greater lesson: to spread the cement of Brotherly Love and Affection — that cement which unites us into one sacred band of Brothers.

As this week draws to a close, let us consider: What have we built this week? Have we used our trowel to bind relationships together, or have we allowed cracks of misunderstanding, pride, or indifference to weaken the structure?

A wall is only as strong as the mortar that holds its stones in place. Likewise, our Lodge — and indeed our communities — are only as strong as the bonds of love and unity we choose to spread between one another.

This weekend, be a builder of unity. Extend a kind word, mend a broken bridge, or simply be present for a Brother in need. Let your trowel spread not judgment, but grace.
